Our History
Where it all began
The 8th May 2025 will be the 35th anniversary of the formation of the Albatross and Creswell Flying Club at the Naval Air Station, Nowra. Back in 1990 that club was started by a small group of interested flyers – an original list of which is attached to this history. The level of interest is much the same and the Club has grown significantly into the Albatross Aero Club Inc (AAC) now with over 100 members and a fleet of 8 aircraft operating from it for the use of its members.
The formation of the AAC was approved by the then-Commodore NAS, CDRE Rob Partington, as a club under the Base Welfare organisation. Ex-sailor and local politician Councillor Bill Hilzinger was elected as President at the inaugural AGM in Feb 1991. The Club’s founding aims were to provide opportunities for recreational fixed-wing flying for people based at HMA Ships ALBATROSS, CRESWELL and in the local area. The aims remain essentially unchanged to this day and the Club is very healthy and financial.
